Fresh Start

Fresh Start

Welcome to my new website and blog! My husband and I are just about to purchase our first home together; and as long time renters, this is uncharted waters for us both.  I'm an avid HGTV watcher and Pinterest pinner, so I'm already having trouble narrowing down my ideas, and restraining my urge to knock down walls. This blog will mostly be about our journey together, the many DIY projects that we're certain to encounter over the next few months and years (both triumphs and fails), and updates from my business, AlchemyHome.  Check out the "about" page to hear more of our story!

For now, I'm going to dive right in.  The first order of business is picking a paint color for our main living space.  Right now it's a standard, blah, shade of cream; which I've been living with for the past 32 years of my life...except, of course, for that time in 4th grade when my mom let me paint my bedroom a "beautiful" shade of  lilac.

I don't have any great pictures yet, since we're not closing until Friday, but here's what we're working with as far as the living room, kitchen, and entryway.

We're going with gray.  Some form of it, at least.  It'llbe a pretty major undertaking, since it is an open concept living space, so we'll really need to paint everything from the entryway, through the living room/dining room combo, and kitchen for it to all look cohesive, but I just can't live with the cream anymore!

The floors aren't really the color I would go with, if I were starting from scratch, but they are at least hardwood, brand new, and not carpet, so beggars can't be choosers.  Because of their darker color, with the cherry tones, I don't want to go too dark on the gray for the walls, so I've narrowed it down to a few shades that I love from Sherwin Williams, Repose Gray and Mindful Gray. They're both in the "greige" family, with taupe undertones, but Repose Gray is just the lighter shade on the color card.

Here are some inspiration pictures for each color that I've found on Pinterest:

Thoughts? They are very similar, I know.  At first, I was leaning towards Mindful Gray, but now I'm thinking that Repose Gray may be the better choice with our floor color.

This weekend, the plan is to go in with a couple of samples of each, and paint a little section of the walls in the living room to see how they actually turn out in the room, with the lighting and everything.  I'll update the post after I'm able to get in and paint a few areas!

Has anyone ever used either of these colors, or have any recommendations on a great "greige" to use? I'd love to see projects and pictures of your gray spaces, this is a group effort!
